Not every coaching journey looks the same, and Coach Richard Skopnik\u2019s path proves that success can come from any beginning. We\u2019re excited to welcome Richard back to Kings Hammer Bay United for the 2025-2026 season! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Originally from England, Richard grew up in Southwest London\u2014but in true underdog fashion, became a loyal Blackburn Rovers supporter from the Northwest. Following a team known for its ups and downs taught him resilience and mental toughness, traits that have carried into his coaching career. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Richard\u2019s first taste of coaching came in an unlikely way\u2014through the computer game Football Manager during his college years. He quickly realized he enjoyed the strategy and leadership side of the game and began thinking about how he could one day coach in real life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
After moving to Florida, getting married, and starting a family, Richard\u2019s coaching journey officially began when his children reached soccer-playing age. Signing his son up with Kings Hammer Bay United sparked the thought: \u201cI have something to offer here too\u2014I can do this!\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Soon after, Richard earned his USSF Grassroots License and stepped into coaching with the club. Leading the 2013 Girls team, which included his daughter, inspired him to pursue higher licensure. In March 2025, he achieved his USSF D License. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his first season with KHBU in 2024, Richard guided a mixed-age group of 2013\u20132015 girls to their first tournament championship, along with two additional championship appearances. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Richard\u2019s coaching philosophy centers on player development both on and off the field. While he enjoys helping players sharpen their skills and techniques, what he values most are the teachable moments that help shape them into strong, well-rounded individuals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now in his second full season with the club, Richard is eager to continue growing as a coach.
