The United Soccer Coaches Convention is the world\u2019s leading soccer coaching event that features extensive education opportunities for its attendees. Self-talk, self-esteem, confidence and other emotional and social influences play a major role in each player\u2019s success.&nbsp;<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the last five years there has been an increased focus on athlete mental health, including the impacts seen in youth participants. Increased exposure to social media, isolation due to Covid 19, and this trend was evident at the recent United Soccer Coaches annual conference which hosts numerous clinics, workshops, seminars, and courses covering a variety of topics in the sport.&nbsp; An increased number of these sessions were focused on topics related to the psychology, wellness, and mental health\/performance of athletes, especially youth athletes under the age of nineteen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Benefits of Youth Sports<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most parents and coaches are fairly fluent in the benefits of participating in youth sports:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Increased physical activity- coordination, balance, agility, overall fitness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved social skills- making friends, communication, collaboration, teamwork<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Character building- determination, discipline, confidence, self-esteem<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finding mentors- coaches, older players, and teammates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Potential Pitfalls of Youth Sports<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are some of the potential issues that may arise:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Over-scheduled athlete- diminished time for school, friends, relaxation, sleep, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Performance\/results emphasis- can be self-inflicted by athlete or by parent\/coach<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Skewed Identity- sense of self overly\/only linked to sport<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Loss of autonomy- athlete not able to deal with challenges independently<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"\/murfreesboro\/club\/education\/youth-sports-mental-health\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Click here to read the full story.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kingshammer.com\/murfreesboro\/wp-content\/uploads\/legacy\/murfreesboro\/2022\/10\/MicrosoftTeams-image-31-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6364\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">GK Union Save of the Month<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Congratulations to Tim P from KHA North B07 Red &amp; Kate J from KHA Bluegrass E64 G08 for being named the December GK Union Saves of the Month!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Did you make an incredible save or a game-saving block?
